The remarkable flooding now moving through the Lake Eyre Basin follows an exceptionally wet summer across central Australia, with heavy rain spreading through the Diamantina, Cooper and surrounding channel country systems on its long journey south toward Kati Thanda–Lake Eyre. After substantial water already remained in the lake from last year’s event, fresh inflows have renewed expectations of another rare and spectacular  season, with this extraordinary landscape once again transforming into a vast inland sea.
