Flinders and King Islands hold great natural beauty with sandy beaches, lichen-covered boulders, and rugged mountain ranges. Kangaroo Island features incredible wildlife, gourmet food and imposing natural features.

Tour Itinerary: Great Southern Islands

B,L,D: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Day 1: Depart for Flinders Island (L,D)

Depart for Flinders Island in the morning, with spectacular views over the Australian coastline. A local guide will take you on two days’ exploration of the island. Starting at the stunning beach at Trousers Point, tour Whitemark, Walker’s Lookout, Mt Strzelecki and Lady Barron before arriving at your hotel. Welcome drinks and dinner round out the day.

2 nights: Mountain Seas Lodge or Furneaux Tavern

Day 2: Flinders Island (B,L,D)

Explore Wybalenna, site of the Tasmanian Aboriginal settlement between 1833 and 1847, when all indigenous Tasmanians were moved to this location. The Furneaux Museum offers a fascinating insight into its history.

Drive north to Killiecrankie, famous for its white topaz known as Killiecrankie diamonds. Visit Palana, where evidence of WWII surveillance is still visible, then to North East River, where the Tasman Sea and Bass Strait meet.

Overnight: Mountain Seas Lodge or Furneaux Tavern

Day 3: Flinders Island to King Island (B,L,D)

Heading west, fly to King Island. Visit Naracoopa, then to the western side of the island for a quick stop at the unique kelp factory. Explore British Admiral Beach with its tragic shipwreck history, the local museum, and finish your tour sampling cheeses from the famous King Island Dairy.

Dinner is at the highly rated Wild Harvest restaurant.

2 nights: King Island Wilderness Retreat

Day 4: King Island (B,L,D)

Join a 4WD Hidden Southern Experience tour. Discover hidden bays and coves and the 7,000-year-old Calcified Forest for a short walk before a white tablecloth paddock-to-plate lunch. Take it easy this afternoon, with relaxed visits to more local sites, before another meal of culinary delights at Wild Harvest.

Overnight: King Island Wilderness Retreat

Day 5: King Island to Kangaroo Island (B,L,D)

Fly to Kangaroo Island with a stunning scenic flight over the 12 Apostles on the way. The best way to see ‘KI’ is by luxury 4WD, and Exceptional KI Tours will show you the best of this stunning island. After a BBQ lunch, travel east  and take in the views of Pelican Lagoon and Pennington Bay. Transfer to your hotel in American River and enjoy dinner in this tranquil location.

2 nights: Wanderers’ Rest

Day 6: Kangaroo Island (B,L,D)

Begin with a guided walk of Seal Bay, one of the best places in the world to get up close to Australian Sea Lions in the wild.

On to the iconic Flinders Chase National Park at the western end of the island. Highlights include the impressive Admirals Arch and the sculptured granite Remarkable Rocks. Enjoy a picnic lunch with Kangaroo Island wine before meandering back to American River for a sunset glass of sparkling.

Day 7: Kangaroo Island to home city (B,L)

Discover some of Kangaroo Island’s cottage food industries. First is Clifford’s Honey Farm, believed to have the last remaining pure stock of Ligurian bees in the world. On to Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Oil Distillery before a gourmet picnic lunch. Visit the award-winning KI Spirits gin distillery. Arrive back home in the evening, the end of a tremendous southern islands exploration.
