January 2018 News

Wishing you a happy new year and a 2018 filled with extraordinary experiences

Where the journey is just as important as the destination

A warm start to the year with raving reviews from guests on the spectacular King Island trip over the weekend. The team here at Kirkhope Aviation are excited about all of the upcoming tours we have in store for 2018, especially the first of three adventurous 14 day tours through the Kimberley starting April and reaching the tip of Australia on one of our two 13 day tours to Cape York starting in June. A stunning way to see the hidden beauties that make up the Australian landscape, spots still available on these tours..

A guest with a very special skill

Lloyd is a blind busker in Chelsea

Lloyd was an enthusiastic guest and told us that he hires a plane every year with his earnings as a busker to go on a scenic flight. We were lucky enough to host him and a few friends for a flight to the 12 Apostles and back.

His unique ability to determine the type of aircraft by the musical key the engine creates astounded the staff here. If you’re around Chelsea and want to support this amazing young man, listen to him busk outside the local Woolworths.

His next flight will be on a Cirrus which he told us has an engine sound in the key of B!

The perfect island getaway on King Island

A weekend filled with food, laughs and spectacular views

Blessed with some perfect weather we headed down with 5 guests to King Island for a beautiful 2.5 days exploring! King really is the perfect summer escape, and on the second day when it was 41 degrees in Melbourne it was a stunning 32 degrees on King Island!

Crayfish were on the menu, as well as the fantastic cuisine on offer at the Wild Harvest restaurant in Grassy. We still have places on tours to Bass Strait islands available this summer, so check out our website for more information.

Rains around the Lake Eyre area

A great start to the season

2016 was a spectacular year for Lake Eyre. We watched on as the Lake filled with water and wildlife swarmed the area. Guests from all over the globe witnessed this outback phenomenon before the Lake returned to a white crust approximately the same size as Melbourne. 2017 was a dry year, but still as stunning with a white salt crust as far as the eye could see.

Early this year a dust and thunder storm passed through Birdsville. For more information, listen to Nick speak about rain in the outback on 1278.
