Depart Moorabbin Airport at 8.00am for the South Australian outback. Your pilot will take you for a spectacular scenic flight along the Flinders Ranges to the awe-inspiring Wilpena Pound. Stop in at Rawnsley Park Homestead, overlooking Wilpena’s southern side. Savour lunch at the wonderful Woolshed Restaurant, with its friendly country hospitality, fabulous views and tasty cuisine.

Taking off again, head into the legendary opal mining town of Coober Pedy. On the ground, travel out to the stunning Breakaways, a striking rocky landscape of flat-topped mesas. Toast the sunset on your first evening in the outback and watch the incredible change of colours on the sandstone. Dinner at the Big Winch 360°, Coober Pedy’s newest attraction.

Overnight at the Coober Pedy Experience Motel, an opal mine from 1918 until the 1960s. Enjoy a restful sleep in one of the most unusual rooms you’re likely to encounter – surrounded by rock, individually decorated and very, very quiet.

Coober Pedy truly is like no other place in the world. A tour this morning will show you some of the town’s rich history, diverse culture, opal mines and underground churches.

Fly on to William Creek on the Oodnadatta track, the closest town to Lake Eyre North. William Creek is famous for its pub, one of the most remote in Australia, and more recently for the magical experience of a tour to the Painted Hills on Anna Creek Station, the world’s largest working cattle station, about the size of Israel.

Board a Wrightsair aircraft with a local expert for the short flight to the Painted Hills, which are only accessible by air. Covering an area of 30 by 20 kilometres, the multi-coloured, pristine, sandstone hills of varying shapes and sizes emerge suddenly out of the flat desert landscape. The deep red of the hills is believed to be due to the oxidation of iron in the rocks, while the white sections are where iron has leached away.

Wrightsair has exclusive access to land at the airstrip located near these hills, and you will have the opportunity to walk around this remarkable landscape.

Back in your aircraft, it’s time for a breathtaking scenic flight over Lake Eyre. Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre, traditional home to the Arabana and the Dieri People, is an incredible destination, magnificent whether in its usual dry, flat, salt-plain state, or during those rare periods when rains in the gulf have filtered down to create an oasis in the desert. Fly low and slow over the lake for some amazing photos.

Land at Muloorina Station near the Lake, for a tour and lunch. The Station has an intertwined history and connection with Lake Eyre. Return to Moorabbin Airport at around 6.00pm.
