Our Participation Requirements & Duty of Care

Our Approach to Travel

Australian Air Safaris operates small-group air tours to some of the most remarkable and remote regions of Australia.
To ensure every journey is safe, comfortable and enjoyable for all guests, travellers must meet a minimum level of physical and cognitive fitness.

Our participation requirements are based on the practical realities of remote touring, not on age or medical diagnosis.

What’s Required

To participate safely and independently, guests must be able to:

  • Board and disembark aircraft and vehicles without assistance, including managing steps and uneven ground.
  • Handle their own luggage and personal belongings (5–10 kg).
  • Walk up to 400 metres on uneven surfaces, sometimes in warm, windy or variable conditions.
  • Understand and follow safety briefings and operational instructions.
  • Participate cooperatively within a small group without requiring individual supervision or care.

Cognitive and Mental Fitness

For the safety and enjoyment of all guests, travellers must be able to:

  • Understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Comprehend and respond appropriately in changing situations.
  • Make informed decisions regarding their own wellbeing.
  • Interact respectfully with fellow guests, crew and guides.

If you have a condition that affects memory, judgement, or orientation, please advise us at the time of booking. This allows us to assess suitability and, where appropriate, determine whether a companion or carer should travel with you.

In some circumstances, if a condition is assessed as posing a safety risk to the traveller or others, or significantly impacting the group experience, we may require a companion or decline the booking.
These decisions are made carefully and fairly, in line with our duty of care and Australian law.

(Our participation standards are consistent with Australian Consumer Law, workplace health and safety obligations, and the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.)

Your Pilot and Tour Manager

Your pilot is also your Tour Manager. Alongside the responsibility of safely operating the aircraft, they coordinate tour logistics, manage suppliers, and oversee the wellbeing of the group throughout the journey.

To keep our tours personal and competitively priced, Australian Air Safaris does not provide additional staff or porterage services.
It is therefore essential that all guests meet participation requirements, including managing their own luggage, walking without assistance, and maintaining the group pace at all times.

While on Tour

If, during the tour, the Pilot / Tour Manager determines that a guest is unfit or unsuitable to safely participate in a particular activity, they may restrict participation in that activity.

If the Pilot / Tour Manager determines that a guest does not meet the requirements to continue the tour safely, the guest may be required to leave the tour at the next practical point of exit.
In such circumstances, the guest is responsible for arranging and covering the cost of their return travel home, and no refunds will be provided.

Our Commitment

We are committed to delivering safe, inclusive and memorable experiences.
Our participation requirements exist to protect the wellbeing of every guest and ensure that each Australian Air Safaris journey operates smoothly and enjoyably for all.
