Central & Southern Queensland

Birdsville, South-West Queensland

Birdsville is one of Australia's iconic outback towns. Once a notorious place through which cattle drovers moved their stock, Birdsville is now a thriving community where you can enjoy a cold drink at the Birdsville Hotel, back a winner at the world-renowned Birdsville Races or dance the day away at the Birdsville Big Red Bash.
Our aircraft land just outside the pub, making for an impressive entrance.
Visit Big Red, a stunning 40 metre sand dune, the first of 1140 parallel dunes marking the edge of the Simpson Desert, for sunset drinks.

Carnarvon Gorge, Central Queensland

Carnarvon Gorge is an oasis in the semi-arid heart of central Queensland, in the Southern Brigalow Belt bio-region. Carnarvon Creek has carved a winding course through sandstone over millions of years to form a spectacular steep gorge with narrow, vibrantly coloured and lush gorges. Take guided walks of Mickey’s Creek, Warrumbah Gorge, Moss Garden and a side gorge so narrow you can touch both walls at once. See how the spring systems work, explore the remnant rainforest, spot some of the 173 species of birds and myriad animals including kangaroos, echidnas and yellow-bellied gliders, and take some fabulous photos.

Winton, Central Queensland

Winton, north of Longreach, is Queensland’s dinosaur centre. The world’s only recorded dinosaur stampede, known as the Lark Quarry Dinosaur Trackways, was discovered here in the 1960s. Many other dinosaur fossils have since been found in the region, with the Age Of Dinosaurs Museum featuring a huge collection.
The area’s other claim to fame is showcased at The Waltzing Matilda Centre - the first museum in the world dedicated to a song. ‘Waltzing Matilda’ was written by Banjo Paterson whilst holidaying on Dagworth Station. Legend has it that this song was first performed in public at the North Gregory Hotel.
